I bought a new Bushmaster rifle a few months ago and was wondering about the model. I have searched the Bushmaster website to no avail.
The rifle is a flattop and has an 18" fluted barrel, aluminum free floated handguard, and collapsible stock. There is no flash suppressor. The barrel is labeled .223 rem, 1x9. Bill Springfield did the trigger for me and it is very nice. Also, I have mounted a TA33 ACOG and am averaging 2.5" groups, or just slightly better than I can get with my open-sighted bushmaster. Should I expect better groups than this, or is this about all I can expect with the 3x sight? I own several non-AR rifles that average less than 1" groups at 100 yards. Any help is appreciated. |

This with a different stock maybe, but the barrel length is still off if yours is an 18". http://www.bushmaster.com/catalog_xm15_PCWVMS20FPRED8.asp Or a PC version of this in a weird ban state. http://www.bushmaster.com/catalog_xm15_BCWVMF16FMC.asp |

I have tried several varieties of Black HIlls ammo. It will tighten things up to 2" or so, but the 2.5" is just the average. I have never seen the Federal Match locally so I haven't tried it. These are 10 shot groups. I shoot around 3" with my iron sighted bushmaster with Winchester 556 ammo with 10 shot groups as well.
The TA33 ACOG is a great scope with excellent glass, repeatability of adjustments, etc., but it just doesn't seem precise (not sure if that is the right word) enough to shoot much better than what I am getting. Agree...disagree? I certainly didn't purchase it to shoot dimes and am not all that concerned about it, but if you guys think this rifle is capable of sub-moa I might need to switch to another type. I've always wanted one and thought it would be a neat little predator scope. |

Any help is appreciated. You might not have a BM barrel. A typical BM barrel will be stamped "BM 1x9". and most are labeled 556. The only 18 inch barrel BM makes only comes in a 1x8 and 1x7. And these barrels only come on a complete rifle. They are not sold individually.(From what I found on BM website.) You might have a mutt. Did the rifle come new in the box? Did you get it from a dealer or from an individual? What model number is on the side of the lower receiver? |
| It was a new in the box bushmaster and it was bought from a reputable dealer. I can't remember the markings off of the top of my head but do know that the lower is marked the same as my a2 bushmaster for both 223 and 556. I put an email into Bushmaster and will report whatever I find out from them...don't know how long that will take, though. |

I received a reply to my email today. I was told it was a special run with a chrome moly match barrel and chamber, and that it could safely handle 5.56. I appreciated the reply from Bushmaster...it was sent in less than one business day!
I guess I'll need to try out a higher magnification scope to see what kind of accuracy I can ring out of this one. Thanks for all of the replies. |
