This is my first build and the optics have caused me a ton of trouble.

As you can see in this picture, the Eotech site is large and lengthy and combined with the fore-end of the RAS II that sits on the front 20% of my upper you can see that they together take up 100% of my upper.  This leaves absolutely no room for BUIS, and I wish I had known about this problem sooner than when I ordered both parts.  Now I don't know what I can possibly do but to get rid of them.

Anyway how is the rifle looking?  Do you guys know of anything else I can do to it? I was thinking about getting rid of the TLR-1 and going with a real LED flashlight off to the bottom left.  And how do you guys usually polish the outside of your guns, I've noticed some of the pictures on here have extremely clean and nice looking rifles, but besides oil do you guys use any detergent or cleaning agent to remove debris and dust before applying the coat of oil?

Once you start using your E-OTech you won't miss the BUIS.

BS, you always want BUIS to fall back on in case Mr Murphy takes over, and you know he will at the most inopportune time.

Here's the deal. With an RAS II, you have to mount the EoThing on the forward low section of the handguard's top rail. This is the only way it will fit with the BUIS in place. I had this exact setup until I realized that a very stiff "whack" would slightly shift the rail lateraly, messing up my zero.

Absolutely, with every aspect of life, just my luck I guess.

As far as  my EOTech is concerned, I've had the batteries die and the zero "wander", which were no big deal because I was at the range when it happened, but I had my BUIS allow me to enjoy the day.  If it were a SHTF situation, then my Troy BUIS would be a lifesaver.

Point is, if it's solely a recreational gun, then you don't need BUIS, but for a defensive weapon it's mandatory.  I'm sure others here will back me up on this one.

So either go with a RAS non-free floating or get a low mount aimpoint?

What about cleaning the outside of my gun, any suggestions?  It's quite dirty.

not sure why the outside of your gun is dirty, but go to the "cleaning and maintenance" section, QUIB is the man.

i agree that if this is anything more than a range toy, get a buis.

for the gun, gun scrubber works well, i use old t shirts as rags and jsut spray the whole thing down when necessary.

Will an AIMPOINT on a larue fit between the raised fore-end the rear and allow me to install my TROY buis?

I don't want to waste another $700 on optics that won't fit.  I already had this problem with my last acog.

Sell the Eotech and get an Aimpoint. Thats what the RAS II was made for and in my eyes it's the better sight. IMHO.

Edit: I was typing as you posted again. Yes the Aimpoint will fit. Stick it on a cantilever mount if you want it farther forward. Or just stick to the low mount on the RAS II as designed.

Personally I'd go with the FF RAS and an LMT fixed BUIS, but that's just me. Ex Navy that I am
I would love a FF RAS MRE Sysyem, I'm savin' my pennies!

I have both Eotech 551 and aimpoint ML2
The ML2 is on my GO TO

Sell the iffy tech

Or buy a RAS

Yeah you messed up by ordering that rail that is specifically designed for the Aimpoint alas "Aimpoint Hump" in the middle of the rail. Two options:  Sell your Eotech to buy an Aimpoint or Sell your KAC RASII rail and get a KAC RAS rail. If you use the Aimpoint then you will have space for a back up iron sight in the rear folded down. I recommend the GG&G MAD with tritium. It lays flat and is compact- designed for Navy SEALS by SEALS. I have the RAS II myself.

I'm backing  you up on this one... Murphy hates me just like he hates everyone else.  When you need your Holographic or Red Dot sight the most it won't work.  Shooting through the glass by placing your front sight post in the center doesn't work either.  You need a good BUIS to fall back on should Murphy destroy the technology that we have come to rely on.

On another note, if you don't like the EO Tech you can give it to me :)

Seriously though you could mount the Eotech forward of the aimpoint riser, then get a magnifier for the upper and put a BUIS behind that.

Just a thought.

eotech 517 or 557 is designed to come out over a large handguard I believe if you are committed to eotech. I have the 557 and the front is up off the rail.

If you like the EOTech you could always sell the RASII on the EE, and then buy a Daniel Defense Omega or other drop in forend. Once installed, you could mount the EOTech further forward to make room for your backup irons This makes more sense to me than ditching the EOTech and starting over.

I think you could put the EOTECH towards FSB over the RAS hump thingy

Nothing wrong mounting this way UNLESS you cant see the dot or use the buttons

if you want something cooler then the RAS II, get DD's RIS II....... Free-floating rifle length handguards on carbines are sexy and high-speed.
