i am calling to place an order for either a Colt 6920 or 6940 today. which ever I choose is being modded to be ban compliant by the dealer than sent to Gunslingers who will keep it on a layaway plan for me with no finance charges. The dealer is asking 1450.00 for the 6920 and 1750 for the 6940. both are high prices but how else can i get a Colt 6920 modded before it gets to my local shop? i have no local smiths.
having said that, any 6940 and 6920 owners out there? which would you choose? i was thinking 6940 but the 2 buis worry me. how's the quality? i'm only familiar with troys as i have 3 of them. i'm starting to think i should piece a rifle together so i can get what i want modded without paying too high a price but, i really want a Colt. this is IT for me for awhile and i don't have a Colt in my collection.

There is a link in there with 6940's for what almost your price of a 6920.  It will save you the cost of some ammo.

ETA he might be sold out, but check with him and keep on top of him and you might get one cheaper.

I would say that if you plan on swapping out the plastic handguards for some sort of a railed handguard, then might as well get the 6940, otherwise I prefer t he 6920.

ETA: I paid $1500 +tax for a 6920 about 2 months ago, a little pricey but not bad IMO and no regrets.  There are places in Northern VA selling them for $2000.

Go with the 6940.  After reading some opinions on the BUIS I was pleasantly surprised at the functionality and quality. I have Troys on three other M4's and thought of swapping before I picked up the 6940, But I wont do it now . This is my 3rd Colt. 6721, 6920 and 6940. The 6940 rail is one with the receiver, and the rifle is under 7lbs! I This rifle was built to compete for our militarys  new contract, and IMO (30+ years black gun disease lol is GTG> They really covered everything and kept the weight down.

There are plenty of them out there at this point. However, I did manage to save some money by separately buying the lower, upper, and BCG for my Colt 6920. I got very lucky and found good deals this way and ended up spending less than $1400. Good luck on your search, Colt is DEFINITELY worth it. I love mine!

Also, I think the 6920 has much more adaptability on the long run. My DD Omega rails look great on it and fits tighter than any drop in rail I've ever handled.

How does it compare to a monolithic rail?
