I have a Colt AR15-A2 HBAR, but the right side of the lower is slab sided with no reinforcement or fence around mag rel button ?
Could it be a A1 lower marked A2 ? Ser.# SP216xxx. Barrel marking: C MP 5.56 NATO 1/7 HBAR How can I tell if the chamber and/or bore is chrome lined? I'd be grateful for any info. Thanks |

In doing some research on different variants of the SP1 and 2, I ran across some info that said Colt didn't switch everything at once (1990 ish) Although they used A2 uppers they continued using the older lower receivers without the mag fence until they ran out. So there are rifles that are A2 uppers with the earlier lowers.
This page makes reference to it about half way down. SP Info Look on this page for the SP 2's that have lower receiver descriptions marked with a "*" Bighammer |

Thanks you have a SP-II doe sit have A1 sites? it is a fcaory colt sporter you cant call it an "A2" becasue its neither, its an SPII it is normral and yes it has a 556 chamber and is chromed lined bore |
| As pointed out Colt AR15-A2s are NOT neccisarily the same as a M16A2 in configuration. They often used SP1 lowers and C7 type uppers (A1 uppers with brass deflectors). They however would use the rounded handguards from the A2 and would have barrels built more like an A2 than the A1. |

Thanks to everybody for the info !, and WarDawg I think you hit it on the head about using up old inventory!!
This AR15 - A2 HBAR was new in 1986. I just got it this month and it was unfired except at the factory, it had a rolled up piece of treated paper in the barrel. |
