As someone who is new to this forum I would like to ask for ya'lls input.  My brother wants an AR, but he specifically wants 6.8 I believe.  (Unless ya'll think there is a better caliber to build an AR in thats not .223).  Anyway I was going to put together some options for him...good quality parts and respected manufacterers, not necessarily the very very best most expensive, but quality.  Basic parameters are most likely to be 16 inch barrel with midlenght system.  Flattop reciever for optic ready mounting, most likely BUIS...collapsible stock and a rail set up.  To give ya'll an idea of the types of parts and such I was already thinking of a Magpul Stock (CTR maybe) and MI handguards (or Troy or YHM) not the super expensive Daniel Defense.  Could someone steer me in the right direction of Lower and Upper combo?  I have heard good things about BCM upper assemblies...and I was thinking about a Stag Arms lower (I believe both have 6.8 right?)

Anyway this was my kinda first outline of what I was thinking of suggesting for him...what do ya'll think?  Anything I should or NEED to change, company wise, product wise...any input is greatly appreciated.  I'm excited to help him out if ya'll can help me out as well haha

Doesnt get much better than this. Not a bad price either. You can get it with a YHM free float like you wanted.

And then just add any lower from a reputable company. I'm partial to Essential Arms.

I have a BCM barrel in 5.56 and it is a real shooter. I am not aware of them making a 6.8 barrel but I have not checked with them on that.  Noveske makes a really good 6.8 barrel and PK firearms has their 14.5" in stack the last I checked.  My 6.8 SPC upper is from Rock River and it shoots the 110 gn Sierra Pro Hunters and Accubonds with H332 or H335 powder like no ones business.  It is a carbine length gas system and I use an H2 buffer to keep the cases ejecting closer to 3-4 oclock.  It liked to eject 2-3 oclock with the standard carbine buffer.  Look for a SAMMI spec II chamber with 1 in11" twist.  My Rock River is SAMMI Spec II but 1 in 10" twist.  You can get a bit more velocity with the slower twist if you handload...less pressure...more powder...more velocity.  18 " barrels gain about 100 FPS in velocity over 16" barrels. I use a Magpul grip on my 5.56 AR and it feels very good even when my hands get sweaty.  I have no experience with the CTR stock.  I have shot an AR with the UBR stock and I am lusting for one for my 6.8.  I use a Yankee Hill Specter length free float lightweight forearm with a low profile Yankee Hill gas block.  This has proven to be a good setup with my Larue bipod mount and harris bipod.  Both of my AR's run Stag Lowers.  Good fit and finish to my Rock River and BCM uppers.  Stag makes lowers marked in 5.56 and 6.8.  Both of mine are 5.56 marked.

Awesome thanks for the help, yea I was looking at Stag for the lower.  I don't know anything about this 6.8 XT..are they respectable and good quality?  How would ya'll say they compare to RRA or Stag?

Everyone seems to love them on the 6.8 forum.  The specs are right on for accuracy and high velocity.  They use quality parts for their uppers and you can customize them.  JTAC has a Shilen 6.8 SPC barrel with the nice specs in stock. Look here! Good luck finding a 6.8 bolt...I can't find one or I would link you to that too.  Feel free to email me if you want some more help.
