Okay guys..help me out here. I am having some issues with my DPMS and a .22lr conversion kit not fitting correctly. In my research into finding out why I noticed this....

Now I know the firing pin floats and a dent is to be expected...but this deep? I have had no slamfires in the past....hell I have had no problems since I bought it about 8 months or so ago....I just cant get my damn conversion kit to fit completely into the chamber...it would seem.

What do you all think?

223/556 have 'hard' primers so that is not a problem. It is caused by the free floating firing pin sliding forward when the bold closes.

What model DPMS do you have?

some models come with .223 chambers
some with 5.56

I don't know if thats the probelm, but it can't hurt to know.
Check the barrel markings

Those dings are normal, nothing to worry about.

The one on the bottom row, second from left has been chambered twice. The dimples are normal. Have you looked closely under a magnifying glass at the .22 conversion adapter for any burrs or other oddities? You may try "coloring" the adapter with a Sharpie marker and see if there is a place it is rubbing in the chamber. Also, is the chamber clean?
On a side note, how did your trip tp PA go?

I figured you would notice that... That's the first one I looked at when I noticed the dings...lol. It got thrown in with the other 9 rounds when I did that test.

I have been all over this conversion kit and I can find nothing wrong with it...neither can the tech guy at CMMG. I sent pics of caliper measurements to him to verify specs. He said it all looks fine but CMMG will gladly send another. At this point I don't really know what the problem is. I have another coming but I bet I see the same problem. I just ordered a field gauge to be sure the headspace is in spec. If it is then I guess I need to modify the kit because of a "tight" chamber. I wish someone from DPMS would get back with me on this. I would love to take the kit with me on vacation....We leave on the 21st....

The chamber couldn't be any cleaner...lol Thats the first thing I made sure of. I should send you more pics.

You can see where the back of the kit does not drop into the upper.....

Kinda hard to see but the rails do not make it to the chamber face......the adapter does not go in any further....with or without the carrier.

Like everyone else said the dimples are good to go. 100% normal and very good eyes to those that caught the double dimples.

Looks like maybe the parkerizing on the chamber insert may be thick enough to cause too close of tolerances.

Send it back or smooth it down with some steel wool but I would send it back.

And a factory round will drop into and drop free from the chamber with the bolt/carrier removed? If so, then like posted above, the parkerizing might be a tad thick or the adapter is a tad large. Do you have a case gage for reloading .223? See if the adapter will fit into the case gage.

Yup...those rounds in the first pic will drop right in and fall out if I tip the upper up. I do not have a case gauge yet...still on back order I guess..lol. Mabe I will give this thing a good sanding.
