Now that ive purchased all my upper components i am pretty much out of spare cash. I dont have the fifty dollars to spend on action blocks. Is there any safe and effective ways to install a DD lite rail with out them?
thanks |
| I installed my Lite rail on my new 6920 today and let me tell you Colt doesn't play when they tighten that damn barrel nut, I like to have broke one of the plastic mag-well blocks that you put in the vice to hold the rifle while braking it loose. I do recommend the receiver blocks instead because they don't put as much stress on the upper and lower when doing it the way I did, but it can be done with just a mag-well block with the upper and lower pined together. |

Safe and effective, no. But I'm sure it could be done, but you risk tweaking your upper and mangling ypour barrel nut. Oh and BTW, do you have the DD lite barrel nut wrench? Yes i orderd the wrench for the dd rail, i was kinda mad, i paid 34 for the armorers wrench thinking it would do it all then i found out i needed to blow another thirty on a stupid wrench i will probably never use other than the first time. I will probably just built an action block for the upper by hand or get my dads friend who has a robot to build it. no way im gonna drop fifty for a damn piece of plastic with a cut down the middle and two drilled holes. this one |

I have a vltor low pro gas block hopefully it fits under it, i looked at other noveske barrels (what i have) with the vltor blocks and they fit |

There are other places besides Brownells, though I shop them almost exclusively these days.... http://www.model1sales.com/item-detail.cfm?ID=TOB003&storeid=1&image=actionblk.gif&CFID=49894056&CFTOKEN=69098371 There are a bunch more places too, look around. Get the right tools and you won't spend even more money replacing the parts you screwed up trying to rig them, and then still buying to right tools to put the new parts on with...... |

I would not suggest using a magazine block in the lower receiver for any type of barrel/brake tightening or removal. One of my shooting partners tried this when indexing a muzzle brake and popped the pivot pin tab off of the upper. It damaged the lower as well. I sincerely believe that the mag block's real benefit is as an extra hand when assembling, it works O.K. when used to snug a receiver extension castle nut. Definitely a place where the adage of the right tool for the job is appropriate. The action blocks work well. I've seen the set in the $30 neighborhood recently. I wish I could tell you the site. |
