Hello,
I just received a used A2 upper. The only identification I can find is a Keyhole symbol. Anyone know who this upper might be made by? Thanks for your help. |

I bought it used and wasn't able to find out from the owner who manufactured it. The barrel is marked C MP. Thanks. C/MP are indicative of Chrome lining and Magnetic Particle testing. Colt and FN mark their barrels this way. Others may also. I believe Colt mark their barrels "C MP", and I know that FN mark their barrels "FN MP". I don't think barrels are marked to indicate chrome lining. |

I have no idea how Colt marks its barrels these days, but the only "C MP" markings I've ever seen on a Colt barrel, is on VERY early Colt M16/M16A1, and early SP1s. And they are NOT chrome lined.
If your barrel is lightweight all the way from front to rear, that's what you have, and it tells you nothing about the upper, because it's an afterrmarket build . On the other hand, if the barrel is heavier in front of the sight base than at the rear, it's an current A2 type and is lined. But it atill rells you nothing about the reciever. Was I you, I'd be more interested in whether the barrel is chromed lined, than who made the upper. And BTW: C MP stands for: Colt Magnetic Partcle Tested Proof tested. |
