I recently bought a new Bushmaster upper. On inspection I noticed two small lines of what appers to be rust on the bottom two feed grooves of the barrel. Everything else looks clean. Bright chrome lined barrel and all the other feed grooves in the barrel are clean. I tried to use some CLP and a brush to clean it but no luck.

Is this a problem? Shouldn't I be able to clean this off? Do I just need to use a heavier solvent? Is this a sign of something else?

I'm a newbie and any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Its more than likely copper from the bullets feeding into the barrel. You would really really reallly have to neglect a crome lined barrel to get it to rust, your fine

If it bugs you that much some copper solvent should remove it in a few minutes. Really a none issue however bc it will just come back from shooting.

Are you talking about in the bore of the barrel or the feedramps on the barrel extension?

I'd suspect it's dirt or copper fouling too.

OTOH, it could be a defect in the chrome or rust. No manufacturing process is perfect.

I'd send the barrel back before going crazy trying to remove the spots. BSW

Chrome can rust, but it usually take severe abuse.

"Bottom two feed grooves" would be the feed ramps.  It is normal for copper etc.. to be deposited there during firing of the rifle.  It was probably left there by factory function check.  The other "grooves" are not grooves.  Those should be the locking lug  area of the barrel extension.  If the bore and chamber are bright/clean,fire it.  It should be GTG. (Good To Go)
