Sorry, to start a thread on a beaten subject, but I got a CMMG upper coming in the mail and was wondering what you guys think of them. It is going right on a LMT Defender lower. Are they a top tier manufacturer?

I have one of their uppers, and wouldn't change a THING on it.

I had to swap the extractor spring and insert on it when I got it. Other than that, I love it.

If you choose all the best options they offer, there's no reason NOT to call them "top tier".  CMV Chrome lined MP tested barrel.  MP tested Bolt.  They don't have frequent QC issues.  Wait times suck, but that's certainly par for the course.

I say CMMG makes some really good stuff!

They also make some really average stuff for buyers with a little less money.  I applaud them for that.

Colt
BCM
LMT

CMMG
RRA

Bushmaster
Stag Arms

This is how I'd group them, best to worst (not that Stag is bad...just rankings)

I would say they are top tier.  My CMMG components are on par with my Colt and BCM uppers in both looks and performance.  The CMMG anodizing is slightly glossy... you can't see it on a complete but it's noticeable when you install them on Colt or BCM parts.  Not a big difference... they still look good... just a difference.

Where is a good place to get plastic handguards for it. I don't want the really fat style.

I''ve got two GMMG uppers and they are top notch, IMO. One is a 14.5" A2 middy and the other is a 16" A3 middy. Both have been run hard and put up dirty and have never failed me. I took a three day carbine class with the A2 middy where I put 1200 rounds of South African M193 through it. It got a squirt of CLP on the carrier in the morning, another squirt at lunch, and I ran a boresnake through it twice each night. That's all the cleaning and lube it got all weekend and it was one of the few rifles in the class that didn't have a failure.

CMMG is g2g. One of the best that I think really gets overlooked.

A real hit and miss brand.  Some love theirs some hate theirs.   I am in the next state from CMMG so a lot of guys buy direct at the gun shows.  I've definitely seen a lot more good ones then bad ones... However never seen a bad LMT, Sabre, Noveske, BCM, etc

I've seen several bad LMTs.
