On a recent assembly, the selector would not slide in over the trigger base. I pulled the trigger base back out and examined the bottom. There is a little metal 'tit' on the bottom. I could have filed it down but decided to just slide the trigger in under the selector which worked fine. Assembly tested properly have for both hammer release and hammer retention with trigger depressed.

I realize most will say this is the correct path, but when I watch assembly videos on youtube I see the selector just slide in.

Please tell WHY, I should not file the tit down just enough so the selector can clear freely over it?

Next time try cocking the hammer before you insert the selector.

I'm not sure what "tit" you're talking about, but if you file anything down, chances are your selector will start to function not only when the hammer is cocked, but also when it isn't cocked.

By design, the selector should only be operable when the hammer is cocked.

I assume he means on the bottom of the trigger, there is a burr or something. If you were to look through the selector hole with the trigger installed and the pin in, you could slightly see the trigger.

I've had it happen before. Just lightly ground away the burr and got it flush so the selector could be inserted freely.

At least I assume that's what he's trying to say.

Were these new parts?
A common mod to the trigger is the bump you describe; it 'preloads' the trigger to take out some of the travel.

Yes, new part kit.  The trigger sits in a block.  On the bottom back of my block is a small 'tit' of metal.  Almost like it was pulled from a casting and not ground off.  It purtrudes just a bit so that the bar doesn't sit flat.  I think I should have just touched it with a stone.

The hammer was cocked.btw
