I bought a new upper on the EE which had a YHM Mini-Y comp on it (pinned on.) I expected the worst, but it wasn't nearly that bad; sure it was loud, but all 16" AR's seem loud to me. I wore muffs (no plugs) and the noise was not remotely painful and the concussion in my face was mild to moderate.
Today, my purpose was to IBSZ the rifle, which went off perfectly. Next time, I'll take my patrolman's carbine with a standard A2 flash hider for comparison, but for now, I'm relieved. I expected it to be worse than it was. Of course, I had the range to myself, and there was no one to complain. I wonder if anyone has ever actually measured the noise level from a Mini-Y and some comparison comp's? |

Have someone else shoot the gun and you stand next to them.. Then tell us your thoughts. I'll try it just for the experience, but I expect you are right; it will be quite a lot louder. Fortunately, I usually have the range to myself, and when I need an AR for group shooting, I can use my patrolman's carbine. And maybe I'll eventually get up the nerve to swap out the Mini-Y for something else, but for the present, it's tolerable. |

I can't count the times I pissed off my buddies because they were bet. my 4:00 & 8:00 when I let off some rounds with my old ban era bushy. They're, uh... blasty... |
