I am assembling an upper for the first time.  I have the barrel, BCG, upper receiver, front sight with gas port, and rifle tube (20" barrel).   I need help in knowing what else parts I need.  I am planning on a 'freefloat' 12" forearm, maybe a Midwest or a RRA tube.   Do I need to buy the delta pak and the barrel nut, or will the parts I need to attach the freefloat forearm come with the forearm?

i'd look into a dd lite or m4 or the larue handguards... you wont regret it.

they come with their own barrel nuts.

however, a free float tube wrench will be needed to tighten down the barrel nut

It depends on the hand guard you choose. Basically I'm just going to mirror what hmaverick said exactly. (except I lean toward LaRue )

Most free float handguards are going to come with their own barrel nut as they tend to use proprietary ones.  Some use the stock barrel nut though, don't know if those come with a barrel nut or not.

But I won't need the Delta pak correct?   Isn't that used to hold the two piece original type forearms?
