Hi guys/gals pretty much pre-noobie here so if someone can help me ID this rubber doodad on my extractor spring and explain it's function I'd be most grateful.

Don't see a picture, but...





If it is a blue insert it is a standard rifle extractor spring insert.
If it is a black o-ring it is a carbine/extra power extractor spring
insert.





It helps to give the extractor extra tension.

Holy Crap that's fast  thanks JS it's a O ring that sits on top of the spring one side is flat the other rounded.  Don't know why the pic's are showing, I'll check.

The o-ring adds extra extraction power to the extractor spring. A bit of insurance if you will.

Pics are fine.

What you have is the D-fender. A lil' different than the standard o-ring, but serves the same purpose.
