Another NOOB question. I currently have an A-1 style upper. If I want to switch it to a flat-top (for optics), can I simply purchase a new complete upper and swap it out? Should I try to stick with the same manufacturer? Thanks in advance!

Uppers do NOT require a FFL transfer, correct? Only the lowers do, right?

Correct.... you can buy uppers directly. however, understnad that short barreled uppers require a registered SBR lower.
