How much more reliable is a rifle length gas system that a carbine gas system. I`m trying to decide on finishing my carbine build or selling it and buying a friends Colt Match Target HBAR for $1050. thanks

Things like mags, buffer weight, buffer spring, extractor spring and ammunition your using will make more difference than carbine vs rifle gas.

As SOC mentioned, there are plenty of other more important factors that affect reliability, than carbine verses rifle gas systems.
