i just purchased a upper advertised as a "colt diamaco a-1/c-7". well it doesnt have the diamaco "d" and its marked c and k, which is colt/ kaiser it is a a1 style rear sight, with f/a,and the case deflector bump. is it possible its the m16a1 "improved" mentioned in tbr2? a transition piece between a1s and a2s? also it has a thumbwheel adjuster on the rear sight that just doesnt look right. aftermarket?
thanks in advance |

Colt has made that upper from time to time. I owned a 1986 ventage AR-15A2 Sporter II that had that type of upper, minus the wheel and it was a large hole. I have seen Colt production M4 upper with the C-7 type upper that was stamped with the 4 over the gas tube hole.
As far as being Diamaco I have no idea. We have three Diamaco build semi only 14.5 inch M4's at work and everything has the "d" on it including the bolt and bolt carrier. If thumbwheel is like the after market one that Bushmaster sells then I would say it was put on later as I have never seen Colt or Diamaco offer that type of rear sight. Only the A1 and A2. |

The windage knob is definitely aftermarket, and the upperlprobably is as well.
Both Bushie and DPMS advertise "A1" type uppers which are in effect dups of the late a1 Colt/Dimaco jobs. All the aftermarket pieces I've seenhave an Anchor Harvey "AH" under the rear site, as do many of the Colt/Diemaco jobs. The difference is that govt. contract uppers will also have a C or a stylized D along w/the forge mark. One oddity about some of these uppers is that Anchor Harvey apparently ran a batch without an "R" forged under the sight adj arrow. I've seen this on both DPMS, Bushmaster, and Colt |
