So my upper receiver just came in today and I went to install the DD lite rail but had problems.

After tightening the barrel nut all the way (till it cant thread anymore) the barrel nut collar is still very loose, like will wiggle around loose.

I am trying to figure out where the problem is...

1) it could be that the upper receiver threads are too far from the upper receiver body.

2) the barrels extension has to large of a ridge (dont know what the raised ring is actually called) and thus wont allow the barrel nut to tighten against the barrel collar.

3) the barrel nut collar or barrel nut is too thin (out of spec) and thus even with being threaded all the way, wont tighten the barrel collar against the upper receiver.

So, my main question is, what is the length from the upper receiver body to the end of the threads?

Mine seems to measure 7/16".

Has anyone ever heard of this problem?

Is the barrel nut on backwards?

Negative.

The wrench grooves are facing the muzzle.

I haven't installed one but I've handled one (full disclosure).  Once you install and torque the barrel nut, doesn't the collar tighten up when you install the rail?

Im not sure (stopped after i couldnt get it tightened), but i dont think so.

The barrel collar is so loose it moves quite a bit. If I tightened the rail to it, the whole unit would wiggle.

The collar is supposed to be tightened against the upper receiver, then the rails tighten to it... created a super strong, non-wiggling system.

I just dont know who I need to bother. The upper receiver people, DD, or the barrel people.

The collar on a DD Lite will still spin even after the barrel nut is torqued.

That's how it is designed.

So it takes the rail being tightened to the collar for the entire system to not wiggle?

Wont that eventually damage the gas tube???

Once you torque the barrel nut, the bolt-up plate will still be loose.  Then install the rail.  I used a detachable carry handle that spanned the upper receiver to the ff rail to align the rails of the tube and receiver.  Then just tighten the 6 allen bolts in a cross sequence pattern.

well, i guess y'all know who feels like an ass.

Thank you guys. I just got back from dinner and thought about why the collar would have to fit loosely at this stage.

I will continue the build tomorrow and report back, though im sure y'all know the result.

thanks again and have a good one.

Hey guys, I wanted to thank you for the info. You were, of course, 100% right. Had some time tonight to complete the build and it turned out to be a pretty cool first.
