i got my first AR about 3 months ago, a RRA tactical entry that i have added a few goodies to. ive shot probably 800 rounds thru it since ive got it. and i have another lower on the way to my local gunhop so i can build a second rifle eventually.
now my question is, should i dedicate all my time and spare $$ to building my 2nd AR, (PRS stock, H-bar upper, scoped...ect) or my second option is.. i really like long range work (600+ yards) and i had a decent Remington 300 win mag that i had a lot of good range days with. but ive since then sold it to my dad. what ive wanted to build for awhile is an AICS in 300 win mag. i personally like 300 win mag over the .308, and its just a personal preference. i def. prefer a tactical setup over anything else. and the AICS screams tactical, as well as being one of the most sturdy sniper platforms available. i really like the look, drop mag, adjustments, ect ect.. however i am torn between building my 2nd AR, or starting to put $$ away go get the AICS and donor rifle (which will more than likely be a rem. 700 SPS) im not a hunter at all or anything, outside of a little varmint hunting. but destroying TV's and cinder blocks at 500 yards is just amazing. ive wanted an tactical sniper setup for years, and i wasn't too avid on spending 5k+/- on a genuine full AI.(even though ive always adored it) suggestions? |

if you build the AR lower now, you will be able to escape the ban. (most likely) Although we can't know what a future AWB will look like I'm inclined to agree with Sharpshooter. You can add optics, lights, rails, mounts etc anytime. Over the past couple weeks I've started to put together all of the lowers and LPKs that I obtained after the sunset. I will mate then with uppers as I find them. |
| id agree that you should go forward with the AR, the awb II is likely comming. you can hear in the the commentary from lawmakers regarding the current drug war going on in mexico spilling over into the usa, it is only a matter of time. if you wait till after a awb comes then your likely stuck with limited inventory on preban stuff for your build. or paying thru the nose for newly banned stuff that will carry high prices. I wouldnt even put it past them to do something even more far reaching like a ban on all military/civilian "assault" type rifles, weather preban or not. they will try to pass as much as they can when the time comes. i think it will be more than awb I . the bolt action will probubly survive this. though you may want to grab that stock. just in case. |
