I just picked up my DMPS LR308-AP4 and do not really like the round free float tube that is on it. Is there an aftermarket railed handgaurd that I can put on it? What else would I have to purchase to be able to do it and how hard would it be?
Thanks for any input? |

DPMS makes free float quad rails. I got on for my DPMS .308 Sportical. I'm not sure if anybody else makes .308 quad rails for the DPMS upper. I haven't looked much into it. However, the DPMS quality on the rails are not as good as DD, Midwest or some of the other quality makers. The finish is good the edges just aren't deburred and rounded as well as other makers.
I would be interested to see if anybody has more information. |

This is the one I have on mine.
But they're backordered. I can't seem to find it on Brownells.com. You have to remove the muzzle brake, so you'll need a multi-tool combo wrench. Then you have to drift out the two pins on the gasblock. Generally, if I reuse that gasblock, I use a new set of pins, as they are pretty soft, and can be damaged easily. You slide the gas block off. Then you need to secure the upper receiver in a vice (I highly suggest using one of these but you can use this one too). To remove the handguard, you'll need a special tool. It's very likely that you'll need to use heat to break it free. Usually, they'll use loctite during assembly. Then you install a new handguard. Depending upon which one you choose, there should be detailed installation instructions with it. One thing to be sure of is that the gastube is in perfect alignment with the gas key. That means the hole in the receiver and one of the holes on the handguard are perfectly lined up. |

Thanks for the replies guys. Is there any way to attach a bipod to the rifle that I have? That is the main reason that I want to change out the handgaurds. You should be able to install a sling stud in the original handguard and a Harris will attach to the stud. |
