I am building Flat top carbine. My friend gave me a Carry Handle with an A2 sight. It is marked Armalite, but the elevation wheel is marked 6/3, 5, 4. My A2 rifle is marked 8/3, 7, 6, 5, 4. Is this an unusual thing, or are these for different models.

Also, the apertures on the 6/3 sight are very small in comparison to the 8/3 sight.

I would think that the smaller apertures would be better for Target shooting and the larger ones for Combat. Just a guess.

Anybody have the real answer?

Your removable carry handle is normal, they're all marked 6/3 while A2 sights are marked 8/3.

All my A2 rifles since '86 had those sight markings, and my Colt detachable carry handle from my 6721 are marked the same as yours.

Here's a pic link of the 6/3 markings same as my detachable carry handle, look about halfway down the page.

Since the detachable carrying handle has less room for elevation you loss those last two hundard meters.

I never use the large app at all.  I can't hit anything with it.  The large app is sometimes referred to as the night sight in the military.
