What flash hider would you reccomend for a 14.5" barrel?? I already have a SD extended A2 flash on another rifle, so i'm looking for something both different, and effective!

Thanks

Phantom is the cheapest and you get the most for the money.  For all out flash suppression Blackout or Vortex.

I like the AAC Blackout, but $100 to pin and weld? Ouch!!
May just go with the Vortex.

I'll give you the thought.

A buddy bought a Bushy 14.5 upper and had it sent to Smith Enterprise to have the Vortex permenatly pinned and then sent to him.

We decided to see how the Izzy and the Vortex plays out at night time fire.

Long story short. The Vortex blew us away.

My Izzy was a ball of flame the size of maybe a soccer ball.

His Vortex....looked like maybe the size of a Bic Lighter. Seriously!

Smith Vortex gets the nod from me.  The armorer's at a prominent private defense contractor did some independent testing with the Vortex in their blacked out range.  Their findings indicate that the flash from the Vortex was inconsequential when compared to a standard A2 flash hider.  They also indicated that it increased accuracy somewhat, but didn't elaborate or offer any supporting evidence.

They showed us a video of testing one on a SAW (don't remember which one) and the results were truly impressive.

I don't have one on mine yet, but I will in the very near future.

And the Blackout has even less measured flash... imagine that.

That is quite possible.  However, I have no experience with a Blackout nor even any second hand knowledge that would allow me to comment.  Thanks for your input.

After some research on my own and with the advice of some folks here I went with the AAC Blackout for my replacement A2 flash hider. I was able to pick one up from Brownells for $55.00 shipped I am just waiting for them to get there shipment in from AAC and they will be shipping it out to me. I know they are one the way to them as I talked to AAC myself and they told me they had just shipped some to Brownells early last week. Brownells even told me they are just waiting for them to be deleiverd and then mine will ship to me.

Looks great, im pretty sure it'll get you to 16".  Pretty good muzzle jump reduction.  Good balance of both the previous and flash reduction.

Do you need to use any type washer with the Vortex?  I know it doesn't need to be timed.

Does this work

Yes, that would work and would rival the Vortex.  I have some on my SBRs.  They are definitely required for a 7" barrel.  An EXCELLENT flash hider!  For a 14.5", I would stick to the a formentioned flash hiders.  Even Noveske doesn't put them on his barrels in that length unless requested by customer.  He installs the Vortex.

On a 14.5" barrel, you have 3 'best' options:

-Phantom 5C2, best for the money
-Vortex or Blackout, best if money isn't a factor.

Go shorter than that, and the Noveske KX3 begins to become an option.

That's what I thought.

It will "work", as far as make it legal length,

but it's more commonly used on shorter barrels, right?
