I am in the process of purchasing my first AR.
At first, I was going to purchase the DPMS Sportical. Then I decided to spend more. I found a MP15 for $995 but wanted to research it some before purchasing. I decided it was what I wanted but it sold in the day and a half since I saw it. I have been unable to locate any more locally and absolutely 0 on the web (other than gunbroker for more than I am willing to pay). Now I have found a new Colt 6920 for $1495. However, that is more than I wanted to spend (my ceiling was $1000). My questions: 1. Does anyone know where I can purchase a new MP15 on the web? 2. Should I buy the Colt or 2 DPMS sporticals + mags + ammo (all for less than the Colt)? 3. Should I just wait and hope that I can land another MP15? 4. Does anyone know where I can get a MP15 for around $1000? Many thanks |

It's pretty difficult to find any ARs right now and unfortunately it looks like you found out the hard way what happens when you wait. Personally I would rather have 1 6920 than 2 sporticals any day.
The best option I know of right now if you don't want to spend the extra for the Colt is the following link. As of right now they have two RRAs in stock with 14.5 barrels and perm flash to make it legal for $1030 and $1050. Good luck! Much better choice than a DPMS sportical in my opinion. http://www.pkfirearms.com/store/get_items.aspx?type=0&term=143 |

imo: if you want an AR, stick w/ a more tradiational setup (forged AL uppers and lowers) in the more; imo, there is a reason why std ARs today have dustcovers...
anyways, you are comparing 1: check gunbroker 2: i'd buy the colt myself vs teh 2 sporticals; but then, i'd just as soon buy a complete stag or SW or bushy for less than the colt and spend the rest on mags and ammo and training 3: you can ask the store to see when they are going to get more MPs in 4: yes, online and at some local stores |

You can do better than the DPMS. For 1k, shop around and see what you can do on a Bushy, Stag, etc, etc. Check the EE too. I would get the Colt even if that is a bit more than you wanted to pay. Just IMHO. I have found a Stag for around $900..........and truth be told that was what I was gonna buy till I stumbled on this chart: http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=pwswheghNQsEuEhjFwPrgTA&hl=en This chart made me change my mind and opt for the MP15. What is EE? Thanks |

I can still buy the stag......that would leave me a whole lot more for ammo and mags. 3. Store told me that whatever might come in might come in.....not what I wanted to hear. 4. Anywhere online would recommend. Thanks |

Well, I decided to go an entirely different direction.
I just ordered this: CDM4LE Got it NIB for $1067 delivered. It will be probably late next week or the week after until I receive it....but I can wait for now Thanks to everyone for the help. You guys think this was a solid choice? |
| I think you did just fine. If it was me I would have built my own lower and bought a nice upper for even less. You will find on these boards far too many think spending more money somehow equates to better quality. With some research you will find that many of their high dollar ARs are using the same parts as rifles that are far cheaper price wise. You will also find many of those high dollar rifles end up with the same problems. |
