I just checked my Bushmaster, and the grip screw is a 3/16" allen head. I have to use the long side of a long allen wrench to get to it, and I have to use pliers or visegrips to the short side to loosen or tighten it.

I can't help you with the sight problem: I had an ACOG on my Bushmasterfrom day one, and I never used the iron sights .

I highly doubt it would fall out, they use red threadlocker. You should be able to see the hex pattern if you look down in there with a flashlight. If it is missing Brownells or Midway should have them.
