Pre election that would be a tad high IMHO. Currently that really is not all that bad. I dropped $1100 on a NIB Bushmaster 16" carbine HBAR, w/chrome linded barrel blah blah, three weeks ago. 
6 Months ago I wouldnt have crossed the street for it but WTF. Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. $1000 out the door for what you described sounds like a winner to me.
