I'm not sure there ever was such a thing as a PWA upper. Back when PWA (nice lowers, first-class) were available, they were just bare lowers only.

Everyone who wanted an AR just like the ones Colt refused to make simply acquired a box 'o parts and a PWA lower. This would have been mid-to-late 1980s.

Then they just stopped being available. They never were assembled rifles.

My PWA was sold as a "PWA gun", after doing a little research I found that it indeed DOES have a Colt upper.

info is correct...........PWA never made complete rifles, you may have an upper that was on a PWA lower, but who knows who actually made it. LMT did make the lowers for PWA.

This guy has a list that shows which forge markings mean what.  My upper has a "C  K" on it (on the right side, just below the rear sight) so it was made for Colt by Kaiser Aluminum.

Based on the information I know I would say you are correct.  Hopefully someone more knowledgeable than I will also chime in!

Yes that tells you the forgery it came from but not who did the machining.  If the upper is newer or A3 there is a good chance that it is made by CMT.  That doesn't mean the barrel and BCG are the same though.  There's a good chance it's a mix of parts.  As stated before PWA did not make uppers, just lowers.  They did have an affiliation with LMT.

I remember my first non Colt clone was a PWA A1 I bought in 1988.
