| Ok guys I have a Bushmaster Varmint Special with the 24" stainless barell and a Bushmaster Modular with an Ace stock and a 16" fluted barell. I would like to get an extra upper to add in the mix. I am thinking something in the middle like an 18" or 20" would be ideal. I would be hunting varmints and other than that just target shooting. I would like to have something very accurate but I doubt I would ever shoot much past 300 yards (my ability is not that good), but I want the gun to be better than I am. So what do the experts think? |
| Carbine length barrels seem to be as capable as longer ones of good accuracy. Unless you need length for velocity (your poly tipped vermine rounds should expand fine), I'd say maybe another 16, perhaps a ligher barrel, maybe in a different twist rate. If you really want to get something longer, or ifyou need the velocity, a std gov't barrel could be a good choice. The advice I got when picking out my FIRST AR...which I still have...was 20" A2 open sights gov't profile bbl, 1:9. Very little it won't handle. |
