| I am looking to start my first complete build, and I was wondering if there is a big difference in brands for a lower receiver.... or hell in the whole gun all together. I am thinking about using RRA. Any recommendations? |

RRA makes good rifles/parts. Bushmaster, Colt, DPMS, Stag... Those are just a few who make good rifles/parts. What are you looking for in the rifle you're about to build? Beyond, accurate, durable, fun to shoot and reasonably priced... nothing really. In reality i don't need it to be the top notch most expensive thing. It is pretty much gonna be my if shit hits the fan gun, but I don't want a POS because one day my life might depend on it. |

I built my first Ar a couple of years ago with Stag Upper, lower, BCG, DPMS LPK and a OLY barrel. After 2000 rds It has never burped. Have fun on your first build. I got my wife hooked and am buildiing her one!!! Yeah I can't wait to get started on it, I think I found the RRA stripped lower I am going to start with. |

If you want to be able to count on it if the SHTF, then spend a few extra bucks and get QUALITY parts. Lower is less critical than upper, just make sure it's a decent brand and that you put it together CORRECTLY (disconnector timing right, etc., etc.) But spend some money on a quality upper that you KNOW has a 5.56 chamber. Think Colt, BCM, LMT here. Get a decent carrier and bolt group. Again, Colt, BCM, LMT. Get some decent quality spare parts.
Other geegaws as you fancy them, but most folks think an RDS and a light are kinda "gotta haves" for the modern SHTF gun. |

RRA, Stag, Bushy, etc. are GTG for the lower. Spend a few more bucks and get a good upper and BCG. You won't regret it. What would you recommend for the upper and BCG. I like Colt, LMT, BCM, and Sabre Defence for a no-nonsense quality rifle. There are also premium brands that are quality, like Noveske. BCGs from Colt, LMT, BCM, and CMT are good. Also Young Manufacturing makes good stuff. If you have to settle for an RRA BCG, you'll probably be ok. Stake the gas keys. |

I'm kinda new to all these abbreviations. |

What you get in better brands:
- MPI tested bolt - Better barrel steel - Shot peened - Black extractor spring insert - Properly staked gas key - M16 bolt carrier - Better barrel steel - Individual versus batch tested barrel The need for a few of these features can be argued until the cows come home while others everyone agrees on, but this is what you get in a higher quality unit. |

So is RRA of Bushmaster considered a high quality unit. What would be if they are not? The BCM CMT or LMT that others mentioned? |
