I have, what I suppose is afectionatly known in the lingo - as a Franken AR. It has a PWA Commando 5.56 lower that I've been told by RRA (Purchased PWA years ago) is in the pre-ban range. The upper appears to be a standard A2 with a M4 or CAR 4 carbine hand guard and barrel configuration with a mil-spec bird cage flash hider. When I got it, the fellow listed it as a Colt upper, but the only markings I can find are on the top of the barrel that has: O (or a almost closed C) MP 5.56 NATO 1/7. The shoulder stock is the standard 4 position colapse-able.
Questions: 1) How do I tell if I have the normal or large pins that connect the upper and lower? 2) Any idea on the barrel and upper - who's make? 3) Is the bayonet lug of any use?! I got a standard bayonet in the purchase deal, but of course there is no way for it to actually fit on - as the lug is too far back from the flash hider and the bayonet would just rattle around. 4) perhaps it's me and my lack of actual practice, but my left hand seems all to often to grab the barrel instead of the puny handguard in the heat of practice. Anybody have any experience with Bushy's Dissipator upper that has the longer front stock with he gas block moved out towards the end of the barrel? Thanks. |

3: Bayonet question is how practical is it for you? Do you plan on mounting it for display, bayonet course or curio? There are longer grip bayonets out there that cost a bunch or I believe CMMG makes a clamp on bayonet lug that will allow you to mount the blade correctly. Another opion would be to have the bbl cut back to 14.5 and have a permentlly fixed FH installed.
4: The hand guard question sounds more of a training issue. Just practice some up drills for 10-15 minutes each night for a week. I don't have any experience with the mid lengths to offer any advice. CD |
