I've been wanting to lighten my 24" RRA varmint setup for a while.  I was at a shop the other day and they had a Clark Gator.  It had a 24" DPMS barrel on it.  While fondling it I couldn't help notice how much lighter it seemed than my setup.  The barrel looked to be the same contour, so the carbon fiber handguard was the only thing I saw that would lighten it.

Will a carbon fiber guard make that much of a difference in weight?

What handguards are you running now?

You've got a 6 pound barrel on that thing. I think the CF HGs are around 6oz or so. If your running a regular Al tube right now your only going to save 5-6oz. I don't think it's worth it or your going to notice a difference. I got sick of how heavy my 24" was so I sold it at the current inflated prices, got a JP 20" barrel which is cut down under the HGs, a new receiver, and JP handguards and barely spent a dime.
