I'm about to mount a Surefire 6P with a VLTOR scout mount onto my CAR.  I have a VFG in about the center location of my handguards, and I am a right handed shooter.  I don't have a tape switch.  Where is the best place to mount my light with this setup?  I was thinking the right side of the rail so that I can reach my left thumb underneath the handguard behind the VFG to activate the end cap button?  Any pics would be great, thanx.

Bottom line is "try it all sorts of different places and see what works best for you.

Not everyone has the same size hands/thumbs so what works for one person might not work for you.

+1 it really isn't "one size fits all" but the way you said I think is the best method.  I have a Surefire with the XM tail cap which is both push button and tape.  I actually prefer the push button with my left thumb method

eta: where I have mine mounted with the VG my thumb fits perfectly with the push button

I have my Surefire mounted at 3 o'clock on my forearm rail.

I used this configuration last year during a Larry Vickers carbine class, part of which included night engagement techniques and use of light.  Initially I was concerned about activating the momentary switch on the tailcap, but found with a solid grip on the forearm I could active the light with the side of my index finger no problem.
