Hello all,

I am new to this site and AR's all together. I just bought my first AR "Colt 6920". I would like to start fixing it up and want to put a fore rail on it first. I am looking at Daniel Defensive and Troy 2 piece rails. I am leaning toward the DD because there is no gunsmithing involved. Are there any other choices I should be aware of? Also, would it be beneficial or better to just send it to a good gunsmith and have a one piece put on instead. If I did that I might want to go with a 9 inch rail and put folding sights on it instead (Troy?). I would also like to put optics on it soon. I was looking at aimpoint. Any suggestions there would also be greatly appreciated. Please forgive the newbie questions. I am in the dark here!

Thanks

I've deployed with, and have on my AR, the Knight Armament M4 Carbine RAS.  Works well for me.  Optics-wise I've used both the Aimpoint Comp M2 and the EOTech 551.  I prefer the EOTech.  I'd be wary about buying optics sight unseen from places like ebay, there are a ton of knockoffs out there.   There's more than one thread here that details the differences in Chinese fakes and the real thing.

Knight

ETA: The RAS can be installed by you if you can change a light bulb.  It's not hard.

I have a Troy MRF-DI 7", it's very solid and easy to install.

Is there any gunsmithing involved at all with this rail or is it a drop in?
