I know I'm likely to get a lot of preference answers to this but I wanted to ask just in case there is some logic to it.  What is the preferred way to store an AR?  I store mine w/ no mag in it and the trigger pulled.  How does everyone else do it and why?  TIA.

Depends if I remember to reset the hammer after dryfire practice

most of the time it's saftey on with the hammer cocked and no mag in the gun.  Then again the only gun I leave loaded is my carry gun...

If the AR is used for protection
Then why keep the chamber empty?

Now my Back up  M4 isnt loaded
But my handguns are

Safety = YOU

I agree, my P99 stays mag loaded, round chambered and in DA mode so I get a long stiff,safer trigger pull but its ready to go.  I have been thinking about this exact question alot as my first AR will be here Monday.  If its going to be a home defense weapon, why not chamber the round and keep a full mag in it with the safety on.
I'll admit I don't yet really understand the open bolt on a chambered round vs. a closed bolt on a chambered round as my experience is slim with this weapon.  But for home defense it would make sense to me to just flip off the safety and go is the best option.

I store my AR chamber empty, no mag, hammer down. It's normally kept in my gun safe . . . my "go to" HD guns are revolvers.
