I am interested in knowing a little more about the LMT MRP and what all of the hype is about. I have been researching to try and understand what exactly the MRP is and what the piston upgrade is. My understanding is that the MRP rifle itself is an LMT upper with the built in rail to give it more strength and make it more rigid. The piston upgrade just replaces the typical AR gas system with an LMT piston system. Do I have this correct? Or am I missing more key points? I have a local dealer with a MRP for sale with two extra barrels for $2995. These barrels are different calibers as well. One is a .204 (IIRC) and the other is a 6.8 (I IIRC). The problem is that I did not think LMT made these caliber barrels yet. Also, how do you change the barrels on one of these rifles. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

you pretty much have it right on

as for the calibers I can't answer that and for changing the barrel I'm not 100% sure but I do know it only takes a couple of minutes to do so

Can these be attached to a standard LMT lower?
Thanks!

LMT has a site.

Barrels

The barrels switch out using a torque wrench that is shipped with the rifle on 4 bolts that hold the barrel in place.  Loosen, pull barrel out, stick next one in and, tighten.

You need this kit to make your MRP a piston rifle.   Just change the barrel and the bolt carrier group.

They can be attached to any standard AR15 lower.

It's only 2 bolts that hold the barrel in place and are torqued to 140 inch pounds.

Thats correct. There are barrel removal instructions on the LMT website. One of the rifles I just bought states the front torx screw is to be removed. The aft screw backed out 3 turns, remove barrel, replace with new, and re tighten at 140lbs. It comes with a calibrated torque wrench.
LMT barrels are .204, 5.56, 6.8, and 7.62x39. There are others making 9mm & .22.

Yes they attach to any mil spec lower.

Also, calibers are .204, 5.56, 6.8.  They were making a 7.62x39 AK round also but never came out with it.  Not sure what happened.

I talked with LMT back in November and they were supposedly still planning to come out with it......probably for our military guys. I would prefer a 6.5 Grendel myself when
I need something beyond what a 6.8 can do.

I love my MRP! They are Awesome! Its one of the best platforms out there IMO.

They currently offer 204 ruger, 5.56mm (DI and Piston), and 6.8 SPC.

They are going to release 7.62x39 and a 6.5 (not a Gredel). We offer 22LR and 9mm barrels/conversions for the MRP.

So far there is 5 Calibers available for the MRP platform with more to come in the near future.

When you change the barrel, say from 5.56 to 6.8 or 204, does the BCG need to be changed as well? I am asking because I have not seen any other caliber BCG's out there. Or can you just change the barrel and use the same BCG? Also, how about mags? Do you need to find mags to match each caliber?

Thanks

Okay Im going to show my ignorance...What's this 6.5 (not Grendel) cailiber.  To be honest, I havent heard of it before.  I was considering a 6.8 or Grendel but the idea of one putting the other out of business concerns me some.  Now your telling be there's a 3rd compeditor?

Yes the BCG needs to changed. The barrel conversions and BCG are listed on LMT website.

Piston barrels and uppers are already available as listed on the LMT website.

I looked on LMT's website and I did find some BCG's, but I could only find the 6.8 BCG. I could not find a BCG for the 204. Does the entire bolt and carrier need to be changed with each caliber change, or just the bolt? I cannot find on their website any packages with the barrels and BCG for each caliber.

Thanks!

204 uses the 5.56 bolt and carrier.  6.8 requires a 6.8 bolt, that (I believe, I'm not certain and could be wrong) will fit in a 5.56 carrier.  I think you can pretty much just order the barrel and bolt (if going for 6.8) from LMT and be done with it.

LMT Pistons have been out, I own one myself. There is a thread about them with pics.

Its a New caliber LMT is coming out with from what I have been told. Its not the 6.5 Grendel or the 6.8 SPC. Its another variant.

You are correct in all that you have to change is the bolt and it fits right into the 5.56 carrier. I just bought totally separate BCGs for my different barrels as it is easier to keep up with.

BadAzz, do you have the MRP barrels on your website? I have seen the 9mm but not the .22 listed in the EE.

We havn't done a full production run of 22LR barrels yet. We are waiting for barrel blanks to come in to do a production run. We have made some prototypes on the CNC and the came out awesome. The 9mm barrels came back from being Park'd today so they are ready to go.
