I just purchased my first (of many, im sure) AR15's today and after playing with my new rifle, I noticed that there is a little bit of room (and I mean tiny) where the lower receiver and the upper receiver can kinda-sorta jostle around. So what I'm wondering is: first, is this a bad thing and; two, is there a way to eliminate this problem without getting new receivers.
Thanks, Kevin |

If the function of the rifle is not impaired, then that's completely fine with me! Thanks a bunch! Santa came a little early this year for me when I picked up my rifle today, but for everyone else who has to wait the 10 extra minutes, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

| it is not a bad thing so long as the weapon functions properly. The easiest solution is to learn to live with it, after that there is a cheap piece of rubber called an accu-wedge (sp?) that will help eliminate it, but alot of people consider it a poor fix. It can lead to extra wear on the take down pin from my understanding. After that I have heard of people adding some sort of filler between the two recievers, everything from electrical tape to epoxy to glass bedding. You said you dont want to replace the recievers but for completeness, you could buy a matched set from a company, they are LIKELY to fit well together, other companies offer lowers with a screw in it to tighten it up. Sun Devil, POF, Defensive Edge all come to mind, there may be others. |

Even rifles that have an initally tight fit will losen up over time and increasing round counts. My Rock River was very tight, but with 5 or 6 thousand rounds it has a little slop to it, nothing major, but its there. I also got to break in a Colt M4 straight out of the grease paper. Very tight, no slop, but after a year and a whole lot of rounds downrange, she had loosend up quite a bit.
As Warpig stated, it doesn't effect accuracy, bit it is a little annoyance to me. Semper Fi and Merry Christmas |
| No on accu wedge. Play is okay. A question like this gets asked every few weeks for years; unfortunately, the search function is hard, as it limits you to 30 days. I don't know how to search the archives. First experimented w/ accuwedge 6 years ago, don't recommend it. Not sure if it really does damage, but it does no good. Read as much as you can here, esp links to articles, stickies, the more you read the less money you will waste. |
