I almost bought a soft case today, at the gun show, but it was longer than I'd like. My AR  is only 34.25" long and the cases I've found so far are around 42" long. I'd like to find one that doesn't have an extra 8+ inches of space- I'd like a more compact case to make storage easier. Does anyone have any suggestions on a good soft case that's $100 (or less) that has some decent storage pouches/sections and at least 4-6 clip magazine  pockets?

Upon a recommendation from ARF.com, I purchased this for my new Colt 6920. Fits great and has plenty of room.

I took the minimalist approach - just the rifle and five mag pockets. A padded, ballistic nylon case that's available in different lengths from Yankee Hill.  I don't think it's a YHM case, but the price was cheaper than anyplace else for something similar. Mine doesn't have the YHM logo on it.

See it here

It looks like they out of stock at the moment on the 42" case, but they have the 34" and 36" versions.  Mine is the 36" version.

I just ordered this one.

Looks to be about perfect for the short carbines and still has loads of storage.

Just to throw another option out there.  Take a look at the S.E.R.T. Systems TCC.  It is above your price range but I believe it worth every penny if you want quality.  If you simply want a bag to carry your rifle in that may or may not hold up to long term use and wear, any case will do.  If you want something more durable take a look here

Just another option to consider

That really is a fine case but at over four times the price it would not be a viable option for me.

I make few range trips, just enough to keep me sharp, so I don't really need one of the quality this one appears to be.

Trust me, I understand.  I really didn't NEED it either but my wife got me some for Christmas a couple years ago and I was REALLY impressed.  I just threw it out there as another option.

These are cheap and on sale:  Tactical Rifle Gun Case
This assault and tactical case is made with a rugged PVC coated Polyester outer shell and features 3/4" foam padding. The 6 exterior pockets carry extra magazines and other range accessories.

I would not purchase from Cheaper Than Dirt due to their price gouging since the Presidential Election.  I had been considering some of their Molle gear, but will look elsewhere.  I have no need to support a company that takes advantage of gun owners, whether supply vs demand or not, their policies suck.  The price gouging was pure greed on the owner's part.  Nuff said.

I have a Galatti that was priced right (free) that has served me well for about 10 years.  Not all cool and tactical with Molle loops and whatnot, but does its job nicely.

I just got this one a few days ago in the mail. Nice case with plenty of room for extras, such as mags, cleaining gear, handguns.

I've been very happy with the Molle's from Cheaperthandirt.    I think they're price has risen slightly since I bought but I need another one (or two!) and will be going back there.

Galati International.

Arfcom must be getting slow.  No one called you out on calling magazine pockets, "clip" pockets.

Yeah, I'm kinda surprised to. I guess people are taking it easy on me 'cause I'm new here and new to the whole AR thing. There's a steep learning curve picking up all the politically correct terminology and acronyms.  I'm a simple hunter with no military background (unfortunately) and when I was growing up shooting (longer ago than I care to admit, LOL!) they WERE called "clips" by everyone I knew.  It takes a while to get over a lifetime of using the incorrect terminology. I edited my original post so as to not offend anyone.

I really like the Galati MP-30 mag pouches.  I've got a Galati pistol case, and a rifle case.

Click the blue Galati button above.

I have several galati cases. One was probably bought with my hk 91 at the time of the original purchase by the first owner. The other is 4 years old. They look the same.

For a carbine I like the maxpedition silver, very low key and even holds (barely) a carbine w/ 16" barrell and a1 stock
