So I have a ban Bushy ( I think) with the mini y-comp muzzle brake. It is very loud and I am thinking about changing it to the standard bird cage ( I can do that now legally right?). However the comp is pinned at 12 and 6 o'clock. I saw where someone removed theirs and destroyed it in the process. Is there another way to remove the comp without destrying it?
thx |

NOPE, to get it off it's gona get destroyed.
my guess is that you have the 14.5" barrel. you can cut the old one off and weld on a new one but in needs to be longer than the standard A2 birdcage. if your barrel is shorter that 16" then you are required to either SBR your rifle ( ATF form 1 ) or weld a new hider on. look HERE for the "how to" and THIS is where you can find an extended birdcage |

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO DESTROY IT TO REMOVE IT!
I have removed several and they are easy to get off. You do not have to grind down very far to get to the pins. However, it will have two small grind areas that can easily be repaired with a spot weld and smooth over job followed by some touch up. But why? Toss it in the garbage can when removed. I would bet the barrel is 14.5" after removal which you know what that means... |

I hated mine so much for the extra racket that it threw back at me that I took a grinder to the spot welds, being careful not to go too deep. Then I hacksawed from the muzzle end. Then I took a chisel and split it, then stomped on it then threw it away. What a dumbass piece of work it is/was. It's suppose to mitigate the recoil on a 5.56. Mine barely twitches with an A2 f/h on it. I then put a YHM on it, and have been smiling ever since... |

I don’t know why so many people seem to hate the mini-y-comp. I have two AR’s with them. I like going to range and blowing peoples ear plugs out with the mini-y-comp.
Anyway if your barrel is 14.5” a Smith Enterprise Vortex will make it 16 1/8” and legal. I have one on an M4. And they do completely hide the flash. I have a video of a night shoot where I was shooting my M4. And there is no flash signature at all. The way you measure your barrel is from the bolt face. Remove the ejector from the bolt then place a 3/16” dowel rod down your barrel until it touches the bolt face and mark it. |

The reason I hate the Mini-Y is that it makes the rifle too loud for self-defense purposes unless you wear hearing protection. I admit, it really does reduce muzzle rise. So, I guess it would be great for 3 gun. But for self-defense, forget about it. |

Loose that thing. It is one of the loudest comps out there. I shot mine without ears while hunting yotes and gave myself permanent hearing loss. Needless to say it is off my Bushmaster and has been replaced. What did you go with instead? Just curious. Troy Medieval Agressive End Troy Medieval Here is the end result. The Rifle is done in Cerrakote Sniper Gray. Comp is Armor Black

Yeah, I blame my mini-Y for most of the times I have to ask people to repeat themselves... fire off more than a couple rounds w/o earpro and your ears will be ringing for DAYS.... OP - sounds like you've got your answer, so... |
