Most people will bitch and complain if their castle nut comes loose when shooting - staking is how that is prevented. As pointed out above, the usual way to remove it is 'brute force' with the proper wrench. Some people use a dremel (very carefully) to remove the staked area or at least weaken it. If you go that route get a new receiver end plate. |

I just ran into this while trying to swap out the endplate on my M&P-15. I actually broke two of the armorer's wrenches trying to remove it! I finally got it off my applying just the smallest amount of heat from a propane torch, with the flame angled away from the lower.
