I have seen barrells advertised with these features....
Are they the same thing...which is better? |

The chrome lined barrel will be easier to clean, last longer and probably run a bit easier (your fired cases probably will be less likely to stick).
The non chrome lined barrel will probably be a bit more accurate. I think it will depend on what you want out of your gun rifle and what you are going to use it for. |

No, Chrome Moly is the base metal the barrel is made of, the chrome lined is a treatment process that applies chrome (the metal) to the barrel is bore, ever so thin, .000X range of thickness....serves as a barrier for corrosion, wear, etc....
I work with chrome plating in my line of work and it has good and bad points....as far as chrome lined barrels, I can go either way, I do not see it as a necessity, but in the long run, it will more than likely be a good option... Will I buy an AR w/o a Cr lined barrel, yes, I have many of them. My newest LMT has that "CL" stamped on the barrel, a standard for LMT. |

chromelined for durability and resistance to corrosion; if you don't clean after every shoot.
chrome moly for accuracy potential. this does not mean a non cl barrel is always more accurate than a cl barrel. with an oem off the rack barrel, your match level accuracy potential is limited, or at least "hit or miss," regardless of chrome/no chrome. any barrel not destined for match or longer-ranged tactical applications should be chromelined––- IN MY OPINION |

Chrome moly = 4140 steel usually, but can also refer to 4150 milspec steel (they will usually say 4150 if they have 4150 because its a selling point)
Chrome lined is a barrel that has a hardchrome plating on the chrome moly barrel. This is applied to the barel and chamber of 4140, 4150, or CMV (chrome moly vanandium... the best milspec barrel steel). So chrome lined is what it sounds like and chrome molyjust means unlined. In standard barrels it does not mean "more accurate" it just means "cheap". If you are buying a more accurate barrel it will be a high end barrel and you will pay for it. Dont think you are getting more accuracy by getting the cheapest barrel made... usually a 4140 steel, unlined, with a 1/9 twist and heavy barrel to reduce machining costs to the bare minimum. It will be marketed as "chrome moly" with no other descriptions. |
