me and a buddy are planning on ordering a couple M4 rifle kits from them in the next couple weeks. have a few questions...
1. how good are these rifles kits? 2. i know i need to call them but anyone know how long of a wait im looking at to get these? 3. im planning on upgrading to a chrome lined barrel, i typically shoot 55 grain ammo, would it be wise to get the 1 in 7 twist rate or stick with the 1 in 9? 4. Chromed bolt and carrier...necessary? what are the advantages to this? 5. and last but not least, M4 feed ramps?...like i said typically shoot 55 grain ammo, but IF i go with the 1 in 7 twist rate, would it also be wise to upgrade to M4 feed ramps? thanks for the help! |

I want to know about the quality too. 2. The website says 8-16 weeks 3. The 1 in 7 twist is for heavier bullets. For 55 grain either twist will do. I'd get 1 in 9 with a chrome lining. 4. Chrome is not needed on the carrier. It might even flake and get in the action. 5. M4 ramps aren't really needed in semi-auto. I want to know how their barrels are marked. Discreetely or a billboard? |

Quality on Del-ton is awesome...
Don't let anyone tell you otherwise––- My del-ton Carbine-kit made it through 4 Hard carbine classes (~6k? rounds over a total of 10 days between the classes) No failures except the occasional (3) busted case lips from the metric tons of wolf it consumed. after my massive revamp of gear, my dad owns it, and loves it––- and we still bring it to carbine classes as a backup to my backup, ya never know. Go for the 1:7––- no chrome carrier, not really needed––- and M4 feed ramps aren't really needed as the above poster said. |

Pretty much in agreement with the statements 2-4. They are pretty highly regarded as very good rifles/uppers for the price point, haven't really ever seen a bad report on one. As for lead times, get on the horn and call them. I think some people are nuts waiting for things to show up back in stock on websites, just back order and get it over with. Prices haven't changed, they are still making everything at full tilt, and there is no ban as of now. Every day you check a website to see if something is in stock, other people are receiving their orders. |
| Check the Del-Ton threads in the INDUSTRY section of this site. That'll tell you what the wait times are like. I have a couple of the kits on order for the past month and may be pushing the Jan 20th date before delivery. If you order now I'm going to guess a few months at least before you even think about receiving anything..... |

I've only heard good things about them. My order should be shipped early next week, but if you order today I wouldn't expect it for 12 weeks.
It's probably not worth the extra for the chrome bolt and carrier. I've read that a chrome bolt's are kind or brittle and can have problems, no personal experience though. My M16's weren't chrome and they worked fine. Chrome lining on the barrel is nice, but really not needed by most civilians. If you want it get it though. Personally I would get a 1 in 7 barrel, that will shoot 55's on up. That will let you drop some 75gr tap or mk262 in their without any problems. M4 feed ramps are nice, they seem to let you keep using magazines that are a bit out of spec. My m16's were always more picky about the mags than my civy rig with m4 ramps was. Hope this helps |

I'm pretty sure theyy will do a 1/7 middie barrel. They have a supplier for barrels.
Look under Del-Ton in the industry section; there's a thread at the top on order status where many asked for order changes to expedite. It will give you an idea of all the options and what is driving longer lead times (like 20" chrome lined barrels and CTR milspec stocks). |

I will 2nd or 3rd (or whatever number it is) the thought that del-ton is awesome. I have said it many times and I will continue to say it, they are great! Busy phone lines and wait time like everyone else. Like others have said the M4 feed ramps are not needed. Chrome in the barrel is a good idea and chrome on the bolt is not necessary. 1 / 7 are nice but I like the middy so I had to settle for the 1/9. I agree that certain options, like mil-spec CTRs and such will prolong your wait so it is a good idea to avoid those if possible. If you call and eventually get through the ladies there will help you with all of that so you can place the order on line (easier if you do it online for them and for you as far as tracking it and such). Let me say it one more time, they are awesome! |
Del-Ton is awesome. My first AR build was a Del-Ton and I see that they have a bit more room to get the small parts in easily. Tighter lowers required more patience but as a noob first build Del-Ton rocks. It didn't mate with my upper tightly but nothing that an accu wedge didn't fix. 0 malfunctions and all in all made a great rifle. The aluminum was a bit on the softer side so if it's for s first build, be gentle. Long since sold the Del-Ton but I still don't consider the Stag an upgrade as the Stag has given up two major malfunctions while the Del-Ton was trouble free. Shit, I remember replacing a couple of the springs in there with ones from a pen and the damn thing ran like a champ!
Some folks say not to trust the Del-Ton to any serious social work, but I believe otherwise. Hey if it spits out the bullet and keeps on doing so then... |
