I know I can use a Dremel to cut a Delta ring but I have seen references to Bolt cutters as well.  Has anyone used bolt cutters on a Delta ring with any success?

Why are we cutting the delta ring?

Probably to install a Troy or MI free float rail system without having to remove the barrel.

Why not just use the dremel? Wrap the upper with towels and duct tape and then just make 2 opposing cuts on the delta ring...

I can't imagine anyting easier than the dremel method.

There are three votes in your other thread for the dremel as well.

Not to mention a link with hi quality photos on EXACTLY what to do to the point of being redundant

The dremel would be much more precise, and probably a little easier.  No slipping and messing something up.

I know, the cut itself doesn't need to be precise, you're cutting the part off and tossing it.  I mean precise as in control, not gonna hurt anything else, if done right.

We're razzin him because this is the second thread on page one he put up about it.

Put up the impossible-to-get-wrong how-to by stickman on that thread

I use a large bolt cutters.  It snaps it right off without damaging a thing.  You just engage the cutters with about half the ring and it snaps and falls right off.

Thank you KJB.

Another vote for the dremel method.

It took me more time to wrap up the rifle to prevent shavings from going everywhere than it did to cut the ring.

Why not a hacksaw? Easier and cheaper than buying a dremel, unless you to weak to push a saw for a few minutes.

Why not just get the tools to take it off.  Its a lot easier and absolutely no chance of the dremmel getting away and damaging something.  This comes from a guy who built 9 Aks, and a 1919, with heavy use of a dremmel.  Truthfully I am a big believer in doing the right job with the wrong tool.  But sometimes even I know that the right tool is better. Just get the wrench and a upper vise block and take off the barrel.  You will never regret buying those 2 tools.
