| So one of the non-gun guys at work decided he needs an AR (haven't heard that lately have you?). I told him to go to my favorite shop. About all that's left are some High Standard units. How are they quality-wise? |

Popping my AR15.com cherry here, so be gentle...
On Friday, 11/7, I bought a High Standard direct from their shop here in Houston on the recommendation of fellow officers. I'm too much of a n00b to make any statements on quality, but as I said, other officers at work have given thumbs up. I'd been planning on a RR or Colt before being turned on to HS based on the recommendations, the fact that they're local if I need to get it pounded on, and the price tag (significant local LE discount). When I walked in (don't think they sell to the public from their shop; only LE), there were two models: permanent carry handle and flat-top. As you can see, I chose flat-top. J/K don't know much about them. Just because they still happen to have them doesn't mean they are of low quality. A friend has one, and it does everything an AR is supposed to do. I have a High Standard lower and the quality seems to be on par with other mid range offerings. It's not "top tier", but it's not junk either. |
| Which Gun Shop are you refering to? Is it Firearm Warehouse Traders in Macon? I just bought a High Standard 20" A2 from them. I did a little research before buying and figured if they can make an excellent .22 they can probably make a decent AR. So far I am very impressed with the quality for the price and I didn't have to wait for the rifle. |

they are "commercial" (slanted back / 1.17" diameter). |

All the High Standards I have seen have had the regular carbine barrel. |

We have a gun store with about 4 or 5 of them in stock. Approx. $1000 or so. Bushmaster with quad rail was $1400 or so.
Different stores in Charlotte have different manufacturers in stock right now, but they ALL seem to have at least 8-10 models to choose from. There is no shortage of AR15s in Charlotte NC. One store in particular is KNOWN for having the highest prices on EVERYTHING even without the current demand. Imagine how much they are raping their customers now. They even charge between $5-10 as a Brady Bill tax...not sure where they got that one from. Anyway, there are even some ARs for less than $1000. I saw a Panther for about $799 just yesterday, and that same store has a Colt $1300 (has handle permatnently attached). |
