Im not looking to build an exact duplicate of any of the SPR versions currently being used.....Im more interested in building a SPR "type" rifle. A tactical build that will allow me to use heavier bullets that can reach to the furthest effective range for a 5.56.

What barrel recommendations? I know an SPR typically uses an 18 inch barrel but I dont mind going 20 inch if theres benefit?

What twist?

What trigger would you recommend......reliability being the utmost importance to me.

Anything else to consider?

Price is not an issue.

I built my "SPRish" around an 18" White Oak Armament (WOA) barrel with SPR contour.  There is a minor velocity gain to be had with a 20" barrel, but it will also come with a weight penalty.  White Oak Armament's 20" SDM barrel is a good choice if you really want a 20" barrel.

As for triggers, I'd recommend any non-adjustable match-grade trigger.  I use RRA's 2-stage NM trigger and love it. Armalite and WOA also have their version.  I believe using any of the adjustable, non-standard AR style triggers is a sacrifice in reliability.

You definitely want 1/7" twist so you can use the 77 grain pills by either Sierra or Berger.  These are the heaviest bullets that can be loaded to magazine length.

The only other consideration I'll mention is a free-float rail system if that wasn't already obvious to you.

Below is my my rig and typical performance.  I'm comfortable out to 600 meters with this setup.

If you don't want to build an exact copy of Uncle Sam's version, then the sky is the limit.  If I had to do over again, I'd probably spend a little more on a LaRue or Daniel Defense rail system and enjoy the weight savings and slimmer design.

WOA 1/7 x 18" SPR contour
Rifle length gas system
MI #22 rail
Vltor gas block
LaRue LT-104 scope mount
Troy BUIS (front and rear)
US Optics 1.8-10x37mm

(5 rounds, 100 meters, magazine fed, bipod, 77 grain Black Hills blue box)

I'd like to build/buy an SPR upper sometime soon.  Hope it goes well for you.
