Well, I think it's the coolest looking brake out there (not that that means shit) and every gun owner I've met that has one loves it, but I guess my question to you is...why?  Why do you want to know?  Do you want it for a certain purpose or use?  There are tons of muzzle breaks out there that perform all sorts of specified duties, what makes you think you need the Surefire muzzle break?

i have heard that it is suppose to be a very good muzzle brake and isn't too shaby as a flash suppressor i am primarily looking for a muzzle brake but i would like some flash suppression if possible. do you guys have any other suggestions ?

Try the Flash-Supressing Compensator.

ATF: "It's not a tumor flash supressor."

why the atf article ? but i dont see how that reduce muzzle rise much. i havnt handled the sure muzzle break in person but looking at the pics it looks like it has some vertical ports to help reduce that as well

Because even though it reduces flash, the ATF decided that it isn't a "flash hider" and isn't illegal under legislation that bans flash hiders.

The FSC556 is based on the DNTC:

The DNTC Compensator, designed in collaboration with professional shooter Dave Neth, does its job without the harsh blast of other effective compensators on the market.
Now, I don't know how much compensation one really needs on a semi-auto 5.56, but I can tell you that it made a difference (versus a bare 16" barrel) and doesn't have the noise or blow-back associated with a lot of more aggressive muzzle brakes.  It also really reduces flash on a 14.5" barrel, especially compared to my other options that would be legal in New Jersey.

Just MHO; YMMV.

HTH,
WTF
