What exactly is the purpose of it being used on short barrels only?

Can I use it on a normal 16"  18"  barrel?

Why or Why not?

thx

Increase pressure for reliable cycling on SBRs.

You can totally use it on a 16" or 18". It will reduce perceived report.

Sound and blast are redirected forward. Sounds quieter from the shooter's perspective, but much louder downrange.

It redirects the noise.  As long as you are not in front you hear less.

It also is very heavy and would add a lot of nose weight.

I could think of a lot better muzzle devices for a 16-18in barrel.
