Alright someone help me out. I'm purchasing my first AR. 16" barrel because there's no ranges past 400 yrds around me. 1/7 twist because I think it's a necessity. FF handguard and flat top because I will get a bipod and scope in the near future and the rail handguard looks better than stock IMO. I want a kit and lower or complete upper, lower, stock, and lower parts to skip the whole FET and be more comfortable with the mechanics. That's ALL i've decided on. Not sure where I'll order it or what manf. it will be. For the first gun I'm shooting under $1000 because I know I'm not done spending money. Ideas/suggestions on manf. and places to order are welcome. I don't want to start a brand war, so just opinions on likes please.

Also, what should I look out for in purchasing to not have to deal with the pre-ban mess? I like the look of a collapsible stock, can you put a pin in to make it unmovable? Insight on this would be greatly appreciated.

Side note. What's this contagious BRD I'll contract?

HAHA its like hipagonasyphilaids but worse.  Techical term is Black Rifle Disease (or disorder for you more politically correct people)...

I dont think you can make your price range with the ff.  There are a lot of "good" ar manufacturers, if it seems too good to be true... well stay away from them.. as far as the ban... Im not totally sure, but I believe you dont have to worry about that in Fl (once again not sure) and lastly brd.... is once you buy your weapon, you will have an irresistible urge to constantly upgrade, change or downgrade!! Once it sets in you will be forced to buy your 2nd, 3rd, and so on ar!!!!!!  BTW check the links at the top... they are all good spots to start!!!! Semper!!!!

Yeah, in Florida you don't have ban problems, so I souldn't worry about it.  If cheap but good is what you are looking for:

Stag Arms 16" M4 Flat top upper with Stag BCG and charging handle and Samson C Quad rail FF handguard and ARMS 40L (Model 2HT) = $675

Stag Arms Lower = $120
Stag Arms lower kit + stock kit = $100
Magpul MOE Pistol Grip = $20
Magpul CTR stock = $95

Total $1010.

All you need then is some magazines and ammo.

Good to know about FL. I wish Del-Ton had a 1:7 twist. Any other suggestions?

Would this gun kit from Del-Ton suffice?

Item Name: 16" Mid-Length Rifle Kit
Item Price: $617.00
Options:
16 Rifle Kit - ML Barrel:DTI 16" 1x9 Mid-Length Heavy Barrel
16 Rifle Kit / Rifle -ML Handguards:YHM 4 Rail Free Float Tube
Rifle Kit / Rifle -BC:Standard Bolt & Carrier
Rifle Kit / Rifle -Buttstock:Magpul Mil-Spec CTR Buttstock - Black
Rifle Kit / Rifle -Grips:Ergo Grip - Right hand
Rifle Kit / Rifle-Carrying Handle:None
Rifle Kit / Rifle-Flash Hiders:A2 Flash Hider
Rifle Kit / Rifle-Gas Blocks:Standard A2 Front Sight
Rifle Kit / Rifle-Lower Parts:Standard Lower Parts

Are their lowers credible? Can I fire the cheap stuff (Wolf) accurately with this assembly?

If you're going with a bench/bipod/precision rig, it'd be a great setup.  Otherwise, that heavy barrel could get tedious if you plan on shooting much off-hand or humping it in a training class or something.

In addition to that kit, don't forget that you'll need a stripped lower from Del-Ton or elsewhere for about $100.

if you like adjustable stock look but want a solid feel, the ones LMT use are solid!  I felt 2 at a local shop and after locking in - they would not budge.

DTI only has heavy barrels as selections. I do plan on getting a bipod in the near future, but I want the option to shoot off-hand.

Still need a stripped lower, RSB, and some handguard covers.

You mention the 1/7 being a necessity.  Then you mention 1/9, so I guess you're open to suggestions?

IMO, do what I should have done in the first place.....  Get what you want now and get a trunk gun later.

CMMG makes a medium Contour mid length in 16".  It's a bit pricey, but it's what you want in an upper.  Bravo Company sells a midlength is 16" every now and then and it's a great deal.  If you can wait, and you don't have to have the medium contour barrel, that might be the route to go.  Those are both 1/7 uppers.  Also check where you get the upper and see if they will install it at no charge or will give you a deal on the price.

Any stripped lower will work, but I'd suggest you find a vendor from here local to you and pick it up in person.

LPK can be bought from anywhere or you can go with a modified kit if you want something like the RRA two stage trigger or an other aftermarket adjustable or two stage.  The higher end triggers are great for a gun that will see a lot of prone shooting.  I personally have two AR's and one has the RRA two stage and the other a standard trigger that was just recently upgraded with a low drag JP spring kit.  It "feels" great and I hope to hit the range soon to give it a real test drive.

Rear stock will depend on the usage.  The Magpul CTR is my favorite.  Decent price as well.

BUIS choices are also varied.

I don't plan on shooting high grain ammunition, so I was considering 1:9. I've heard from many sources that the Del-Ton is an effecient kit to make a great and accurate tool. Is it really a "trunk gun"? Meaning accuracy or longevity? I won't be shooting more than 300yrds (local range). I was considering CMMG, but like you said, a bit pricey. Any other opinions/suggestions?
