Didja know you can actually fire a 5.56 round in a 7.62x39 AR?

I don't recommend it.

Two very similar guns, but of different caliber, went to the range with me this morning. I like to get my dumbass quota taken care of early in the day, so I just popped a magazine in, charged it and fired. It kinda went "Poof! Lotsa smoke and the mag dropped out, smoking. As soon as I saw the other rounds in the magazine I realized my error what new ballistics ground I had broken.

I guess the bullet went out the barrel, although I doubt any speeed records were set. The bore and the rest of the gun seem fine now, all cleaned up. There was a lot of debris, unburned powder I suppose, in the barrel. You can see that the primer strike is off center.

As close as I care to come to a kaboom.

Dude, Charlie did it all the time in Nam. Wanna know something else cool? We couldn't shoot their ammo. Talk about an unfair advantage

1. Good to know.

2. Glad no one was hurt.

Remove head from ass.  Shooting is a very serious sport that can kill or injure when you do dumbass things.  I'm more concerned about damage to your guns.  Think twice next time.  Safe shooting

+1...but I think this falls in the catagory of "bet you'll check twice next time."  Glad you weren't hurt.  Hows the rifle?

Helping people like me learn from your mistakes.

May I copy your photo and show it around my NG unit? I've been trying to debunk a certain myth for awhile now.
