Hi! I am wanting to purchase an AR15 very soon. I am a left handed shooter and have settled on the left handed line stag offers. I am just curious what the differences are between the 2TL model and the 5L model. I am a total newbie when it comes to this stuff...so have a little patience with me please.
What I am looking to achieve here is a rifle with ACOG scope and a fore grip. I mainly want it for home defense and to have some fun at a shooting range on the weekends with my spare time. Also I am positive the gun laws are about to go nuts...and not in my favor.

So basically, I want a left handed powerful rifle out of the box that I can defend my land with(should it ever come to that).

Also I live in Texas, so if there are any legalities I need to be made aware of please let me know. Like I said, I am uninformed. Any information is helpful, and very appreciated.

2TL vs. 5L
5.56 vs. 6.8mm
A.R.M.S. 40L vs. no BUIS
Samson Star C Quad Rail vs. regular handguards

So a 2TL is the 5.56 Nato round that all AR15s run on, it has a ARMS 40L rear iron sight included (worth about $100) and it has a Samson Quad Rail included (worth $250).

The 5L has the 6.8 SPC round (extra power, more cost) and no extras attached.  For your first gun, I'd get the 2TL, it's a lot of gun, and would only need an optic by your standards.  Me?  I'd add a Magpul CTR and a MIAD for good measure.

Oh, and you live in Texas, you can shoot people in the back as they run away as long as they are on your property, of course there's no special gun laws, you can have whatever you want.  (Though you do need special tags for silencers, full auto, and short barreled rifles).  Everything else flies.

Awesome response thank you. I have no need for silencers or full auto...maybe a shorter barrel for convenience, but I see no real need. I will have to do some research into what a Magpul CTR is and a MIAD are. But thank you again for your response.

It's a bit more complicated....you can only shoot people in the back if they are fleeing with the property stolen in a robbery or theft in the nighttime and there is no other way to reasonably retrieve the property. (Former Texas Assistant DA). Other than that, you're good to go.

So, basically, you could shoot someone in the back who pissed you off, on your property, plant your tv next to the body, and wait until nighttime to call the cops?
