Sounds to me like the spring that holds the pin has broke or maybe fell out somehow.

Forgive me for not knowing the technical name for the parts. But to get to that spring and dentent, remove the pistol grip, and you should see the spring sticking out quite a bit, and refer to a technical manual to make sure everything is installed right.

Make sure you don't lose the dentent pin thingy(haha I know, forgive me) they are very small and a PIA

Did you change pistol grips, or otherwise remove the pistol grip recently?

Spring failed, or possibly the detent is stuck in the down position due to debris, corrosion, etc.  Only way to really know what happened is to disassemble it, which consists of removing the pistol grip to pull out the spring and detent and then cocking the hammer so that the safety can be removed.
