Curious what happened to banned AR values during the AWB. I know this is a tough question as you'll ask; brand? condition? rounds fired? Regardless of brand, condition, etc., I'd think the value of any given gun would have been higher during the ban. Up an average of $100.00? $500.00? |
| Prices were up to about 150% of the price of a brand new post-ban (depending on condition, brand etc. etc.). However, I doubt they would get that high for a long time even if there were a new ban tomorrow, as everyone has been buying AR15s like drunken sailors since 2004... the market is awash with them. |
| Just about any "pre-ban" AR was going for $2,000. I don't know if they were actually selling and I also am betting that some shit-bag dealers were assembling AWs and selling them as "pre-ban". I went to a couple shows in the months after the sunset of the AWB and still saw guys asking $2,000 for their "rair pre-ban" guns. The stupid thing was during the ban you could still buy post ban guns with only the flash hider and bayonet lug missing for so cheap. Mags really never went up, well, only hard to find ones like betas, betas were $1,000. I bought USGI 30s for $10 and Orlites for $7 or $9, same as now. |

In 2000 when I first got into AR's and Assaultweb.net was a pretty popular website preban stripped lowers would sell for $450 - $600. Mags went for $12 - $30 each, I sold someColt 30 rounders used for $25 each. Complete preban AR's were normally priced north of $1200 on the web at the time, if I recall Colt rifles would go for quite a bit more. I think pricing is still similar to above in Connecticut where they still have a ban, NY as well. I don't recall what pricing was like at gun shows, only went to the small Lexington KY gun show at the time. Ammo was a lot cheaper! |
Fudd, Don't buy one for investment. Buy one because you want one. You'll never sell it, even if it goes to $15,000.00 like the full autos have. |
Just bought my first one two weeks ago and looking for an excuse to buy another one. |
Think of the guy who bought 1000 M16 lowers in 1985 ($100,000 Maybe more like $50,000 back then? How much was a stripped lower in '85? then, worth $10,000,000 EASY now) |
